History of the AOH in Roanoke VA

An AOH Division was first organized in Roanoke in December 1894.  It had twenty four (24) members and was called the St. Patrick Division.  Officers included:

J.J. Garry            President

Frank O’Brien      Vice President

W.J. Cummings   Recording Secretary

Daniel Horgan     Financial Secretary

J.P Carr              Treasurer

The St. Patrick Division was chartered on August 12, 1900.  In 1902, the division had eighty (80) members.  In 1903, the division purchased their own meeting place.  The home was located at 14˝ Salem Avenue.  The division was re-chartered on April 6, 1908.  On July 7, 1948, the division was disbanded.

In December 2002, the efforts of three (3) men resulted in the formation of a new AOH division – the Fr. John Lynch Division.  Bill Barron, Dan Maloney and Kevin O'Neill were working separately to secure membership and start a new division.  They soon learned of each other’s activities and combined efforts to start a new AOH division.
